About us
The Sinarades Philharmonic Wind Orchestra is a non-profit private legal entity located in the village of Sinarades, within the Municipality of Central Corfu and the Diapontic Islands. Founded in 1961, it has become a vital force in preserving and promoting Corfu’s rich musical heritage through continuous cultural engagement and accessible music education.
The Orchestra is one of 15 active philharmonic wind orchestras on the island and among only three operating in the rural region of Middle Corfu.
Mission and Educational Role
The core mission of the Sinarades Philharmonic Wind Orchestra is to provide free music education to children and young people, in accordance with the long-standing tradition of Corfiot philharmonic societies. Its educational philosophy is rooted in the belief that music should be accessible to all, regardless of socioeconomic background.
Educational programmes include:
-
Music theory and solfège instruction
-
Training in wind and percussion instruments
-
Ensemble rehearsals and performance opportunities
A central part of this initiative is the Student Band, which serves as both a training ground and a bridge to the main orchestra. Lessons are delivered by experienced musicians and educators, ensuring high-quality instruction and continuity in musical excellence.
Beyond technical training, the educational experience nurtures discipline, teamwork, creativity, and personal development—preparing not only skilled musicians but engaged and responsible citizens.
Artistic Activity
The Orchestra plays an active role in the cultural life of Corfu, regularly contributing to public and ceremonial events. Its calendar includes:
-
Participation in national parades and religious processions organized by the Municipality
-
Annual concert performances (5–6 per year) in Sinarades and Corfu Town, often in collaboration with prominent Greek artists
-
Appearances at festivals, cultural exchanges, and artistic events in Greece and abroad
Since 2017, the Orchestra has been under the musical direction of Alexandros Koskinas, whose artistic leadership combines respect for tradition with innovation, guiding the ensemble toward new creative horizons.
