Sinarades Philharmonic to Participate in Bicentenary Commemorations of the Exodus of Messolonghi
The Sinarades Philharmonic announces its participation in the commemorative events marking the 200th anniversary of the Exodus of Messolonghi.
The Philharmonic’s presence in Messolonghi is a distinct honour, as it is associated with one of the most significant and defining moments of the Greek War of Independence. In April 1826, following a prolonged and arduous siege, the besieged population of the city, both civilians and soldiers, undertook a final attempt to break through the encirclement, an act that remains emblematic in Greek historical memory.
The commemorative events will take place on Saturday, 4 April and Sunday, 5 April 2026. On Saturday evening, the Band will participate in the procession preceding the reenactment of the Exodus, while on Palm Sunday it will take part in the established procession to the Garden of Heroes.
The bicentenary constitutes a major milestone of national remembrance, with Messolonghi serving as the focal point of commemorative and cultural events throughout Greece.
The Board of Directors extends its sincere thanks to the Municipality of the Sacred City of Messolonghi for the invitation and the honour extended to the Philharmonic.
In light of this participation, the Band will not take part in this year’s Palm Sunday procession in Corfu. It will, however, participate as scheduled in the remaining events of Holy Week and Easter
